Dog Walking

Published by xialan at 9:04 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Dogs love walks. I have a dog who likes to take me for a walk and, personally, I don’t mind. I feel that our daily walk is her time so I don’t mind if she pulls me along a little bit. I let her stop and sniff when she wants and explore as much as she can.

Some people, though, don’t like this idea of a dog walking them. So what do you do?

The days of choker chains or prong collars are gone. Most trainers stress positive reinforcement when teaching your dog not to pull on a leash. When you’re dog starts tugging, simply stop. Wait till he turns around, say “yes” and reward him with a treat. Eventually, your dog will learn what you want, and the truth is, dogs want to please.

If you’ve ever considered a training class, this is a great way to start and one of the first things you’ll learn in most classes.
