Creeping, Crawling Things
My friend’s son loves spiders. Luckily for him, his parents are supportive. They have large spiders living in corners throughout the house. One a recent trip to China, they brought one home with them, which required filling out forms and going through customs. But he survived and is currently living in their living room.
While I’m not a fan of spiders myself, I can appreciate the fact that they are fascinating creatures and can make good, if unconventional pets.
For one thing, they’re quiet. They’re clean. And they’re a good choice for people with allergies. Of course, they’re not very social but they have other qualities that make up for that.
However, nearly all spiders are venomous to some degree so you do have to be careful, not only for yourself, but if you have other four-legged pets in the house.
In their own ways, spiders can be high maintenance so you should only get one if you’re willing to commit to learning about them and raising them right.
A good site for learning about spider care is Ten Spider Enterprises.
