More on Foreclosure and Pets
A couple days ago I wrote about what happens to your pet when you lose your home and this question keeps coming back to haunt me. I’ve never had to get rid of a pet so I’m lucky. But I can imagine that a lot of emotions must arise when that happens.
Guilt is probably the main one. We become attached to our pets, yet often, especially if we’re renters, we can’t have animals. For years I rented and never had a pet. But many people bought homes and with today’s economy are losing them. This means they need to move into rented housing that often won’t allow pets.
I think when that when this happens, the people suffer more than the animals. The truth is, we’re the ones who get the most attached. Not that our pets don’t feel something for us, but is what they feel human emotion in the same way we do?
I think as long as an animal is treated well and fed, they will develop loyalty.
Maybe this isn’t what we humans want to hear. After all, we want to think our dog or cat loves us as much as we do them. But do they?
I love animals. But I think there’s human nature and I think there’s animal nature. And the two are simply different.

I liked reading this entry. I had to find a new home for my dog when my husband and I moved into a mobile home park. We were told we could have my 70 pound dog at the park. Well, within a week, the park owners came by and said the rules only allowed for a 30 pound dog. In retrospect, my dog Shep was probably much happier at his new home (a farm with other dogs, pigs, and children, too). I felt so guilty about having to let him go but as you say, that’s just our human nature. Shep probably had a lot of fun with his new family!
